Confidentiality

In the field of sexology, confidentiality is a very important concept. I will not disclose any of your information without your written permission. As a clinical sexologist, there are certain exceptions to this rule I have to make. These exceptions are as follows:

  • If you intend to cause bodily harm to another person. This does not include a consensual BDSM scene. In this situation, it is my responsibility to report to the local law enforcement.
  • If you intend to cause bodily harm to yourself. In this situation, it is my responsibility to work with you, and if I suspect that you are a continued threat to yourself, I would take further action to prevent this from happening.
  • If there is suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse. The law requires me to report this to the appropriate authorities.
In all situations, I would confer with you prior to taking further action. If you feel that any of these items could be a concern for you, we can definitely discuss them prior to treatment.
